Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University HNBGU

Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University (HNBGU) is a Central University located in the scenic Garhwal Himalayas of Uttarakhand. It was established in 1973 as Garhwal University through a historic grassroots movement to provide higher education in this remote and challenging region.

The university was renamed in honour of the legendary freedom fighter and former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Late Sri Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna. In 2009, it was upgraded to Central University status by an Act of Parliament.

Today, the university has emerged as a prominent centre of learning with 11 schools, 49 departments, and three campuses, playing a vital role in the educational and socio-economic development of the Himalayan region.
