Big Boost to Sports in Uttarakhand: 23 New Academies, Sports University in Haldwani, and Women’s Sports College in Lohaghat Announced
Uttarakhand is set to witness a major transformation in the sports sector with the announcement of 23 sports academies to be established across eight major cities of the state. This ambitious initiative aims to nurture young sporting talent and provide them with world-class training infrastructure close to home.
In a landmark move, a dedicated Sports University will be established in Haldwani, further cementing the city’s role as the emerging hub for sports education and training in the region. The university will offer specialized courses, professional coaching programs, and research opportunities in sports science and physical education.
Additionally, Uttarakhand will also see the creation of a Women’s Sports College in Lohaghat, focused on empowering female athletes and ensuring equal access to quality training, coaching, and academic support. This initiative reflects the state government’s strong commitment to developing a structured and inclusive sports ecosystem, with special attention to rural and remote regions.
We congratulate Chief Minister Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami for this visionary step and hope this becomes a defining move in establishing Uttarakhand not just as Dev Bhumi, but also as Khel Bhumi.
