Arya Finishes First in the Women’s 5KM

Among hundreds of runners participating in the event, Arya attracted attention with her performance in the 5KM race.

At only seven years of age, completing a 5KM competitive run itself is a significant achievement. Arya went a step further by finishing first in the Women’s 5KM category. (Uttarakhand Sports Foundation)

An Encouraging Performance at a Young Age

Arya’s performance is a good example of how children can develop an interest in running and competitive sports when they are given opportunities to participate from an early age.

Running five kilometres requires stamina, consistency and determination. Seeing a seven-year-old successfully compete over this distance can also encourage other children and parents to explore athletics and outdoor sports.

At this age, participation and enjoyment of sport are more important than results. Regular exposure to sporting events can help children build fitness, confidence and discipline while allowing them to discover the sports they enjoy.

Creating More Opportunities for Young Athletes in Uttarakhand

One of the objectives behind organising the USF Half Marathon Pauri is to provide athletes and young runners from Uttarakhand with opportunities to participate in organised sporting events.

The 2026 event saw more than 700 participants from different age groups and backgrounds compete at Pauri.

Performances such as Arya’s also highlight why local sporting events are important. Young athletes need competitions where they can gain experience, test themselves and develop confidence before moving towards bigger events.

Uttarakhand has a strong sporting culture, particularly in athletics and endurance sports, and identifying talented athletes at a young age can help create a stronger pathway for the future.

Congratulations to Arya

The Uttarakhand Sports Foundation congratulates Arya on finishing first in the Women’s 5KM category at the USF Half Marathon Pauri 2026.

We hope she continues to enjoy running, participate in more events and develop her abilities in the years ahead.

Her achievement is also an encouraging message for other young children: sport can begin at any age, and sometimes the best way to discover your potential is simply to participate.
