3000m Steeplechase: Bronze in a National Record
A day after the 1500m, Parul ran the fastest steeplechase of her life. She clocked 9:08.67 to take bronze, slicing almost four seconds off her previous national record of 9:12.46 and becoming the first Indian woman to break 9:10 in the event. Bahrain's Winfred Yavi, who beat her to gold in Hangzhou, won again in an Asian Games record 9:04.36, with Kazakhstan's Norah Jeruto Tanui second in 9:06.82.
5000m: Second Bronze in Three Days
Defending her Hangzhou 5000m title on the third straight day of racing, Parul used her trademark finishing kick to pass Norah Tanui in the closing stretch and claim bronze in 15:14.61. Winfred Yavi completed her own double with gold, and Japan's Nozomi Tanaka took silver. Parul said she was happy with the result because she knew the competition was very tough, and that it felt good to bring a medal home for her country.
Her build-up had been mixed: she finished fifth in the steeplechase (9:26.75) and 15th in the 5000m (15:08.56) at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, which she blamed on cold conditions she had not trained for, before adapting her training at the SAI centre in Bengaluru for Japan's weather. Parul Chaudhary: National Record Holder and Asian Games Champion
Parul Chaudhary (born 15 April 1995 in Iklauta village, near Meerut, Uttar Pradesh) is an Indian distance runner and the national record holder in the 3000m steeplechase (9:08.67) and 5000m (15:04.26). She won 5000m gold and 3000m steeplechase silver at the Hangzhou Asian Games in 2023, and followed it with bronze in both events at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya.

From Sugarcane Fields to the Asian Games Podium
Parul Chaudhary's rise from a village near Meerut, where she once ran barefoot along paths through sugarcane fields, to becoming an Asian Games champion and police officer is one of Indian athletics' most inspiring stories. Known for a fierce closing kick and remarkable durability, she has pushed the national records in her events to levels no Indian woman had reached before.
Early Life: A Village Runner from Iklauta
Parul Chaudhary was born on 15 April 1995 in Iklauta village near Meerut, one of four children of Krishanpal Chaudhary and Rajesh Devi. She began competing in the 800m at school in 2011, then moved up to the 1500m and 3000m before settling on the 5000m and the 3000m steeplechase.
Her running earned her a job with Western Railway in 2015, which took her to Mumbai.
Parul Chaudhary Age
As of October 2026, Parul Chaudhary is 31 years old, born on 15 April 1995. Distance runners often peak in their late twenties and early thirties, and her best times have come in 2025 and 2026, including her 9:08.67 steeplechase national record at the Asian Games.
Parul Chaudhary Height
Parul Chaudhary stands at approximately 1.70 m (5 ft 7 in). In distance running, endurance, running economy and mental resilience matter far more than height, and her trademark closing kick over the final lap has repeatedly proven decisive in championship finals.
Hangzhou 2022 (Held 2023): Historic Double Medal
At the Hangzhou Asian Games in October 2023, Parul first won silver in the 3000m steeplechase in 9:27.63, behind Bahrain's Winfred Yavi. Less than 24 hours later she ran the 5000m final, trailed Japan's Ririka Hironaka in the closing metres and overtook her on the inside for gold. She became the first Indian woman to win Asian Games 5000m gold, completing a rare steeplechase and 5000m double at a single Games.
