Aman Sehrawat Storms Into Asian Games 2026 57kg Final
Asian Games 2026 update: Aman Sehrawat has reached the men's freestyle 57kg final at the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, which guarantees him at least a silver medal. On Saturday 3 October he opened with a 20-9 win over Japan's Yamato Ogawa, beat Kazakhstan's Nurdanat Aitanov 12-1 in the quarter-final, and then came back from 2-6 down to beat Tajikistan's Aiaal Belolyubskii 14-8 in the semi-final. He now meets North Korea's Chong Song in the gold-medal bout, looking to improve on the bronze he won at the previous Asian Games.
Previous Asian Games: Sehrawat won bronze in the 57kg freestyle category at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou (held in October 2023 after a pandemic-related postponement). Gold in Nagoya would be his first Asian Games title.
Asian Games 2026: Aman Sehrawat's Campaign in Nagoya
Aman Sehrawat arrived at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan as the headline name in India's men's freestyle wrestling squad, having sealed his place in the 57kg category at the national trials in May by beating Rahul Deswal in the final. The wrestling programme runs from 30 September to 3 October at the Nagoya City Inae Sports Centre, and the men's freestyle 57kg competition is held on the closing day, 3 October 2026.
Sehrawat went into the Games as a reigning Olympic medallist and in good form at 57kg, having won the Budapest Ranking Series in July. He wrestles with an aggressive, fast-paced style built on ankle attacks and conditioning. India's men's freestyle squad in Nagoya also includes Sujeet Kalkal (65kg), Sagar Jaglan (74kg), Deepak Punia (97kg) and Rajat Ruhal (125kg), while the women's squad is led by Antim Panghal.
Aman Sehrawat Semi-final: A 2-6 Comeback to Reach the Final
The semi-final against Tajikistan's Aiaal Belolyubskii looked difficult early on, with Aman trailing 2-6 at the end of the opening period. He turned the bout around in the second period, scoring 12 points while conceding only two, to win 14-8 and book his place in the gold-medal bout. Earlier in the day he had won his opening bout 20-9 against Japan's Yamato Ogawa by technical superiority and beaten Kazakhstan's Nurdanat Aitanov 12-1 in the quarter-final.
Antim Panghal also reached the women's 53kg final on the same day, so India is assured of at least two more wrestling medals from the finals. Deepak Punia (97kg) and Sagar Jaglan (74kg) were set to wrestle for bronze.

Aman Sehrawat: Olympic Medallist and Asian Champion
Aman Sehrawat (born 16 July 2003 in Birohar village, Jhajjar district, Haryana) is an Indian freestyle wrestler competing in the 57 kg category. He won bronze at the 2024 Paris Olympics, becoming, at 21 years and 24 days, the youngest Indian to win an individual Olympic medal. He is also a bronze medallist at the 2022 Asian Games (Hangzhou) and a former Asian champion (2023, Astana), and he is now a finalist at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya.

From Birohar to the Olympic Podium
Aman Sehrawat's rise from a small village in Haryana, orphaned as a child, to become India's youngest individual Olympic medallist and a two-time continental medallist is one of Indian wrestling's most emotional stories. Trained at Delhi's famous Chhatrasal Stadium alongside Tokyo Olympic silver medallist Ravi Kumar Dahiya, he has built a reputation for relentless pace and stamina in the 57kg category. Following his Paris 2024 bronze, Northern Railway promoted him to the post of Officer on Special Duty (OSD) as a tribute to his achievement.
Early Life: An Orphan's Journey from Birohar
Aman Sehrawat was born on 16 July 2003 in the village of Birohar in Haryana's Jhajjar district. He first practised traditional mud wrestling (kushti) in his home village, and lost his mother and then his father within a few years of each other, becoming an orphan by the age of 11. He was subsequently raised by his extended family.
Inspired by Sushil Kumar's silver medal at the 2012 London Olympics, Sehrawat enrolled as a child at the renowned Chhatrasal Stadium akhada in North Delhi, the training base that has produced Olympic medallists Sushil Kumar, Yogeshwar Dutt, Bajrang Punia and Ravi Kumar Dahiya, where he trains under coach Lalit Kumar.
Aman Sehrawat Age
As of October 2026, Aman Sehrawat is 23 years old, born on 16 July 2003. He was 21 years and 24 days old when he won his Olympic bronze in Paris in August 2024, which made him India's youngest individual Olympic medallist, surpassing PV Sindhu's previous record.
Aman Sehrawat Height
Aman Sehrawat stands at 1.70 m (5 ft 7 in), competing in the lightest men's freestyle Olympic category, 57kg, where his speed, footwork and conditioning have repeatedly been decisive against taller, heavier opponents.
2022 Asian Games (Hangzhou): First Continental Games Medal
Sehrawat won his first Asian Games medal at the 2022 Asian Games, held in Hangzhou in October 2023 after a pandemic-related postponement. Competing in the 57kg freestyle category, he lost in the semi-final but bounced back to win his bronze medal bout, finishing on the podium at his first Asian Games.

Breaking Through: From Cadet Ranks to World Champion

- 2021: Won his first senior National Wrestling Championship title.

Aman Sehrawat at the 2024 Paris Olympics
Sehrawat opened 2024 by winning gold at the Zagreb Open Grand Prix in January, and then secured India's Olympic quota in the 57kg category at the World Olympic Qualification Tournament in Istanbul. The Wrestling Federation of India selected him ahead of Tokyo Olympic silver medallist Ravi Kumar Dahiya for the Paris Games. In Paris he beat North Macedonia's Vladimir Egorov 10-0 and Albania's Zelimkhan Abakarov 12-0, lost the semi-final 0-10 to top seed Rei Higuchi of Japan, and then beat Puerto Rico's Darian Cruz 13-5 to win the bronze medal, becoming, at 21 years and 24 days, India's youngest individual Olympic medallist.
2025-2026: Suspension, Comeback and Results
After his Olympic bronze, Sehrawat won gold at the 2025 Kocaeli Grand Prix in the 57kg category. Later that year he hit a setback at the 2025 World Championships in Zagreb, where he missed the 57kg weight limit by 1.7kg before his opening bout. The Wrestling Federation of India suspended him for a year from 23 September 2025, but lifted the suspension in November 2025 after a disciplinary committee treated it as a first-time violation, clearing the way for his return in 2026. His recent record is summarised below.
