Pranavi Sharath Urs Wins India's First Women's Golf Gold at Asian Games 2026

Women's Individual Stroke Play · Mysuru, Karnataka · 15-under 265, Kasugai Country Club, Nagoya
Asian Games 2026 Result (3 October 2026)

Pranavi Sharath Urs won the gold medal in the Women's Individual Stroke Play event at the Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, finishing on 15-under-par 265 at the Kasugai Country Club. The 23-year-old from Mysuru became the first Indian woman to win an individual golf gold at the Asian Games, and delivered the country's first golf gold of any kind since Shiv Kapur's men's individual title at Busan 2002. She also helped India's women's team alongside Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar to a silver medal in the team event.

Pranavi Sharath Urs at Asian Games 2026: How the Gold Was Won

Pranavi Urs carried a three-shot overnight lead into the final round of the Women's Individual Stroke Play on 3 October, but the day didn't start smoothly: a triple bogey on the third hole threatened to undo her advantage. She responded with three birdies through the rest of the round to steady her card, then held her nerve on the closing two holes, finishing with two pars to lock in a 15-under total of 265 and the gold medal.

The silver and bronze medals went to golfers from China and Singapore, both finishing one shot back at 14-under, as the field pushed Pranavi all the way to the final putt. The win makes her the first Indian woman to top the individual golf podium at the Asian Games a feat that had eluded even India's most decorated female golfers, including teammate Aditi Ashok, who won silver in the event at the 2023 Hangzhou Games.

From Mysuru's Fairways: Pranavi Urs's Early Life

Pranavi Sharath Urs was born on 15 April 2003 in Mysuru, Karnataka. She picked up golf at the age of six after watching her father and brother play at the Jayachamaraja Wadiyar Golf Club in Mysuru a course that would become her training base through her junior years and into her professional career. What began as a child tagging along to the club grew into a serious competitive pursuit by her early teens, as she worked her way up through India's junior and amateur golf circuits.

Her path to this Asian Games wasn't without setbacks. Ahead of the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games, Pranavi sustained a muscle tear in her right shoulder on the opening day of the Indian trials and was forced to withdraw. When the Games were postponed to 2023 due to the pandemic, she got a second chance at fresh trials and made the cut, going on to finish 13th individually and help India's women's team to a silver medal in Hangzhou.

Building a Professional Career on the LET

Pranavi turned professional and began competing on the Hero Women's Pro Golf Tour of India, winning the second and third legs of the 2020 season. She has since become a regular on the Ladies European Tour (LET), where her best finish came in 2024 at the Andalucia Costa Del Sol Open de España, where she finished third matching an earlier career-best result at the Helsingborg Open.

2026 was a breakout season on tour: she carded a standout final round at the KPMG Irish Open to post a close runner-up finish, having been the only Indian player to make the cut that week, and backed it up with a top-20 finish at the London Championship at Centurion Club. That form carried directly into her gold-medal run in Nagoya.

Career Snapshot

  • 2020: Winner, 2nd & 3rd legs, Hero Women's Pro Golf Tour of India
  • 2023, Hangzhou Asian Games: 13th individual, Silver in the women's team event
  • 2024, Andalucia Costa Del Sol Open: 3rd place on the LET (career-best, matched)
  • 2026, KPMG Irish Open: Runner-up finish; only Indian to make the cut

Ending India's Long Wait for Golf Gold

India's golf history at the Asian Games goes back to the 1982 New Delhi Games, where Lakshman Singh won individual gold and anchored the men's team title. Shiv Kapur added another individual gold at Busan 2002, but no Indian golfer man or woman had topped the podium since. On the women's side, the closest India had come was Aditi Ashok's silver at the 2023 Hangzhou Games. Pranavi Urs's gold in Nagoya closes both gaps at once: it is India's first golf gold in 24 years, and the country's first-ever individual women's golf gold at the Asian Games.

Why This Gold Matters

  • India's first golf gold at the Asian Games since Shiv Kapur in 2002
  • The first individual women's golf gold for India at the Asian Games, ever
  • A come-from-ahead win, overturning a third-hole triple bogey under pressure on the final day
  • A double-medal day for India's golf programme, with the women's team also taking silver

From a six-year-old following her father and brother around the Jayachamaraja Wadiyar Golf Club in Mysuru to a gold medal at the Kasugai Country Club in Nagoya, Pranavi Sharath Urs's Asian Games 2026 campaign is the standout story of India's golf programme this year one of several history-making individual performances from India at these Games, alongside Avinash Sable's steeplechase campaign. Her full tournament record is tracked on her Wikipedia profile.
