Breaking Barriers: Lt Col Pooja Nautiyal’s Historic Everest Ascent at Age 44

Uttarakhandi Lioness Lt Col Pooja Nautiyal (Retd) scaled Mount Everest at the age of 44

On May 20, 2025, Lieutenant Colonel Pooja Nautiyal reached the summit of Mount Everest at 8,848 meters.

This was not just a climb. It was a victory for every woman who has ever been held back by circumstances, age, or family responsibilities.
She was an officer in the Indian Army, a trained mountaineer, and a mother of two daughters.

In 2008, she was selected for an all-women Everest expedition but couldn’t participate because of family responsibilities.

Still, she never gave up on her dream.

She climbed Mt. Nangkarshang, UT Kangri, Mt. Kun, and Mt. Ama Dablam. Each peak brought her closer to Everest.

We often lose ourselves in responsibilities but discipline and dreams can reshape everything.” – Pooja Nautiyal

This climb is dedicated to all the women of Uttarakhand and India who start to doubt themselves because of age, duties, or societal pressure.

This was not just about reaching a summit, it was about rising above every limiting belief.

Uttarakhand Sports Foundation New Delhi congratulates Lieutenant Colonel Pooja Nautiyal on this historic achievement and proudly stands with every woman of Uttarakhand in the journey of empowerment.
