Big news for Uttarakhand sport: Bhagirathi Bisht granted USF Sports Scholarship by Uttarakhand Sports Foundation (USF), New Delhi. The scholarship will support her continued training, her participation in competitions and her pursuit of sporting excellence. For a young athlete from the hills of Uttarakhand, this support comes at exactly the right time.
Bhagirathi Bisht: From Wan Village in Chamoli to National Podiums
Bhagirathi Bisht, 24, belongs to Wan village in the Dewal block of Chamoli district. It is a region where tracks, coaching and sports infrastructure are hard to come by. She lost her father early in life, and her mother worked as a daily-wage labourer to keep the family going. With so few resources around her, a professional sporting career was never an easy path.
But Bhagirathi kept running. Early mornings on hill trails, long training runs and years of quiet discipline slowly turned her into one of Uttarakhand’s most promising long-distance runners. Today she is a source of pride for Chamoli and the entire Dewal region, and the news of Bhagirathi Bisht granted USF Sports Scholarship has been welcomed warmly across the hills. You can read more about her journey on her athlete profile page.
Marathons and Races Won by Bhagirathi Bisht
Her results over the last two years show a runner who performs well on very different courses, from steep hill roads to flat city circuits. These results are a big reason behind the decision of Bhagirathi Bisht granted USF Sports Scholarship.
- Hyderabad Marathon 2025: Bhagirathi won the women’s title and the gold medal, along with a cash prize of ₹3 lakh.
- Apollo Tyres New Delhi Marathon 2025: She won the women’s title in a personal-best time of 2:48:59. Running a full marathon in under three hours is a major achievement for any athlete.
- USF Half Marathon Pauri 2026: She won the Women’s 21 km category in 1:24:54 and took home ₹51,000. The race was held on 24 May 2026 on the demanding roads of Pauri Garhwal. Read more about the USF Half Marathon Pauri.
- Hyderabad Marathon 2026: Competing in the full 42 km, she clocked 2 hours 51 minutes and won the silver medal in the women’s category, a result that came against tougher competition than the year before.
Each of these results adds to a growing record that has made her one of the most closely watched marathon runners from Uttarakhand.
Coach Sunil Sharma: The Guide Behind the Runner
A big part of Bhagirathi’s progress belongs to her coach, Mr Sunil Sharma, an international marathon athlete himself. He spotted her potential early, built her confidence and pushed her towards international-standard training. Coach Sharma has often spoken about the larger dream of an Olympic marathon medal for India, with Bhagirathi carrying that ambition forward.
Bhagirathi Bisht Granted USF Sports Scholarship: Why the Foundation Backed Her
Bhagirathi is not new to the USF family. The Foundation had earlier partly sponsored her training camp in Kenya, held between July and August 2026. Kenya’s high-altitude terrain and its deep pool of elite distance runners make it one of the best places in the world to train, and the exposure has helped sharpen her pacing and race-day strength. Her success after the camp was also covered in our story on USF sponsored athlete Bhagirathi Bisht winning silver in Hyderabad.
Recognising her need for continued financial assistance, the Foundation inducted her directly into the USF Sports Scholarship Programme.
Scholarship Agreement Signed in New Delhi
On 10 October 2026, Bhagirathi and her coach, Mr Sunil Sharma, met USF’s Trustees and Leadership Committee members at Langma International, South Ex, New Delhi. It was on this day that Bhagirathi Bisht granted USF Sports Scholarship became official, with a tripartite scholarship agreement signed between:
- Bhagirathi Bisht
- OpsTree Global, represented by Mr Sandeep Rawat, CTO & Founder
- Uttarakhand Sports Foundation, represented by Mr Sushil Bhatt President , and Mr Vikas Pundora, General Secretary

₹10,000 Monthly Support Starting October 2026
Under this agreement, Bhagirathi will receive ₹10,000 per month from OpsTree Global through Uttarakhand Sports Foundation, starting in October 2026. This is how Bhagirathi Bisht granted USF Sports Scholarship turns into real, regular support. For an athlete who has trained for years with very limited means, a steady monthly amount brings real security. She can now spend less time worrying about expenses and more time on training, recovery and competition.
Thank You to OpsTree Global and Sandeep Rawat
USF sincerely thanks OpsTree Global and Mr Sandeep Rawat, who also serves on USF’s Leadership Committee, for standing behind Bhagirathi’s journey. Their support is a good example of how the corporate sector and community organisations can work together to empower athletes from the hilly regions of Uttarakhand. Talent is spread across the mountains, but it needs backing to reach the finish line.

The Road to Los Angeles 2028
With Bhagirathi Bisht granted USF Sports Scholarship, the next goal is clear. We wish her every success in her upcoming competitions. We hope to see her represent India at the Los Angeles Olympics 2028, make Uttarakhand proud and inspire the next generation of athletes. Her story shows what is possible when talent meets hard work, good coaching and timely support.
