India Commonwealth Games 2026 Day 5 Results: Sharmila Dhankar Wins Historic Gold as India Bags Six Medals
India delivered its best performance of the Commonwealth Games 2026 so far on Day 5 in Glasgow, winning six medals across athletics, para athletics and weightlifting. The standout performer was Sharmila Dhankar, who created history by becoming the first Indian to win a Commonwealth Games gold medal in para athletics after claiming the women’s Shot Put F57 title.
At the end of Day 5, India’s medal tally increased to 10 medals, including 2 Gold, 5 Silver and 3 Bronze. Apart from the six medals won on Monday, Indian boxers also enjoyed a successful outing, with Sachin Siwach, Ankush Panghal and Sakshi Chaudhary advancing to the quarter-finals, ensuring another medal opportunity for the country.

India’s athletes impressed across multiple disciplines as they secured one gold, three silver and two bronze medals on Day 5.
🥇 Gold Medal:
Sharmila Dhankar Women’s Para Shot Put F57
Sharmila Dhankar scripted history by winning India’s second gold medal of the Commonwealth Games 2026. She registered a best throw of 9.81m, with all six of her attempts crossing the nine-metre mark. Her remarkable consistency earned her the gold medal and made her the first Indian ever to win Commonwealth Games gold in para athletics.
The victory was one of India’s biggest achievements of the Games and highlighted the country’s growing strength in para sports.
🥈 Silver Medals:
Gyaneshwari Yadav Women's 53kg Weightlifting
Gyaneshwari Yadav opened India’s medal account for the day with a superb silver medal in the women’s 53kg weightlifting event. She produced a composed performance throughout the competition to finish second on the podium.
Valluri Ajaya Babu Men's 79kg Weightlifting
Valluri Ajaya Babu came agonisingly close to winning gold in the men’s 79kg weightlifting final.
The Indian lifter set a Commonwealth Games snatch record with a 149kg lift, leading the competition after the snatch round. He later lifted 181kg in clean and jerk to finish with a total of 330kg.
However, Malaysia’s Erry Hidayat Muhammad produced a final clean and jerk lift of 184kg, taking his total to 331kg and pushing Ajaya Babu to the silver medal by just one kilogram.
Sarvesh Anil Kushare Men's High Jump
National record holder Sarvesh Anil Kushare delivered one of India’s finest athletics performances by winning the silver medal in the men’s high jump.
Sarvesh successfully cleared 2.25m before narrowly missing the 2.28m mark. Jamaica’s Romaine Beckford claimed gold, while Sarvesh became the first Indian to win a Commonwealth Games silver medal in the men’s high jump.
🥉 Bronze Medals:
Bindyarani Devi Women's 58kg Weightlifting
Experienced weightlifter Bindyarani Devi added another medal to India’s tally by winning bronze in the women’s 58kg weightlifting competition. Her podium finish continued India’s excellent run in weightlifting at the Games.
Shilpa K Shyla Women's Para Shot Put F57
Shilpa K Shyla initially finished fourth in the women’s Shot Put F57 final after recording a best throw of 7.26m.
However, several minutes after the competition ended, Nigeria’s Euchariya Iyiazi, who had originally secured bronze, was disqualified after one of her valid throws was ruled a foul. As a result, Shilpa’s fourth-place finish was officially upgraded to the bronze medal, giving India a memorable one-two finish in the event.
