About the Bengaluru Marathon
The current run of the Bengaluru Marathon is organised by NEB Sports, and the official results page lists the first edition of this series as the 2014 Shriram Properties Bengaluru Marathon. Over the years, the race has changed title sponsors and is now run as the Wipro Bengaluru Marathon, while Shriram Properties continues to appear on the official site as the “powered by” partner.
What makes it special is the mix of runners. The Full and Half Marathon attract serious road runners chasing personal bests, while the 10K Charity Run and the 5K Fun Run bring in families, office groups and first-timers. The organisers’ own tagline for the 2026 race talks about 42,000 runners in one city, and the stadium start gives the whole event a proper race-day feel.
Race Categories, Eligibility and Cut-off Times
There are four distances, and each one has a different age rule and cut-off time. These figures come from the official rules and FAQ pages.
| Category | Distance | Minimum Age (on race day) | Cut-off Time |
| Full Marathon | 42.2 km | 18 years | 6 hours (first loop within 3 hours) |
| Half Marathon | 21.1 km | 18 years | 3 hours 30 minutes |
| 10K Charity Run | 10 km | 14 years | 1 hour 30 minutes |
| 5K Fun Run | 5 km | 6 years | 1 hour |
Children below 12 years must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who is running in the same category. Only individual entries are accepted. Runners who miss the cut-off are asked to withdraw, and anyone who chooses to continue will not get route support or an official finisher’s certificate.
Race Day Timings
The organisers’ race day booklet lists an early start for the Full Marathon, and the Half Marathon is split into three waves.
| Category | Holding Area Opens | Race Start |
| Full Marathon | 2:50 AM | 3:50 AM |
| Half Marathon | 5:00 AM | Wave A 6:00 AM, Wave B 6:05 AM, Wave C 6:10 AM |
| 10K Charity Run | 6:30 AM | 7:30 AM |
| 5K Fun Run | 7:15 AM | 8:15 AM |
Runners were asked to reach the venue one hour before their start time. The time to start your race closes 30 minutes after the scheduled start, so late arrivals risk missing the start altogether. For the Full Marathon, the course stayed open until 9:50 AM.
Registration, Bib Collection and the Expo
Registration for the 2026 edition is closed, and the official registration page now shows “Registration Closed” against every category. Registration was online only, with no manual or on-site entry. The entry fee covered the race entry, a bib with a timing chip, a race day T-shirt, a finisher medal, and a hot breakfast, and every runner got the same kit whichever phase they registered in.
A few rules that trip up runners every year:
- Bib expo: The bib expo runs for two days before the race. There is no bib collection on race day.
- Collect it yourself: Runners are expected to collect their own bib. In unavoidable cases, an authorised person can collect it with a consent letter from the runner, the confirmation email or SMS, and a photo ID copy of the runner (Aadhaar, PAN, or passport).
- No swapping: Bibs cannot be transferred or exchanged. A runner found wearing someone else’s bib can be disqualified.
- Wear it properly: The bib must be worn on the front of your vest or shirt, fully visible and not folded or altered.
- Changes and refunds: Category changes and refunds are allowed only until 60 days before the event, and a cancellation carries a processing charge of ₹250.
For the full list, read the official rules and regulations.
The Course and Route Maps
Both the Full Marathon and the Half Marathon start and finish at Sree Kanteerava Stadium. The Full Marathon is run in loops, which is why the official cut-off asks runners to finish the first loop within three hours. The organisers have published a combined route map for the Full and Half Marathon, and separate maps for the 10K and the 5K, on the official route page. The race day booklet marks the aid stations, medical points, ambulances, entertainment zones and toilets on each map. Since the maps are images on the official site, it is best to open them directly instead of relying on a written description.

Getting to the Venue and Parking
Parking is the biggest headache on any big-city race day, so the organisers’ advice is worth following.
- There is no parking at Kanteerava Stadium on race day, and the organisers encourage carpooling or cabs.
- Paid parking is available at UB City, and free parking is available at Freedom Park (Right Parking MLCP), with a shuttle service to the stadium and back.
- Entry for participants is only through Gates A and B on Vittal Mallya Road, opposite St. Joseph’s India High School. All other gates are closed to participants.
- Drop-offs are allowed on Vittal Mallya Road, but you cannot park there.
- Wear your bib before you arrive to get through the gate faster.
Aid Stations, Medical Support and Baggage
The Full and Half Marathon route had 20 aid stations stocked with water, electrolytes, cookies, and bananas, and the 10K route was supported with the same supplies. The 5K Fun Run had water and electrolytes. Bangalore Baptist Hospital was the medical partner, with support at the start and finish areas and at several points on the route, ambulances on the course, and medical bikes patrolling the route. Volini was the recovery partner, and there was a physio tent for stretches after the run.
The baggage counter was open only for the Marathon, Half Marathon and 10K runners, with one bag allowed per bib, and it closed at 11 AM. Your bib number is your baggage ID, and the organisers advise leaving phones, watches, jewellery and original ID documents at home because they are not responsible for lost items.
Prizes and Prize Money
The race day booklet lists prizes for the fastest finishers. The Full Marathon rewards the five fastest elite finishers and the three fastest in each age category. The Half Marathon rewards the three fastest finishers and the three fastest in each age category, and the 10K rewards the three fastest finishers. The amounts below are from the official prize money page, and they are the same for men and women.
| Category | 1st | 2nd | 3rd | 4th | 5th |
| Full Marathon Elite | ₹1,50,000 | ₹1,00,000 | ₹75,000 | ₹50,000 | ₹40,000 |
| Full Marathon Age Category (18-35, 35-45, 45-55, 55-65, 65+) | ₹25,000 | ₹20,000 | ₹15,000 | – | – |
| Half Marathon Fastest (Open) | ₹40,000 | ₹30,000 | ₹20,000 | – | – |

| 10K Fastest | ₹20,000 | ₹15,000 | ₹10,000 | – | – |
Winners need a bank account in India to receive their prize money. Per the official rules, the organisers contact winners about 30 days after the race to collect bank details, and the money is paid within 60 days of the event.
Results and Timing Certificates
Provisional results are put up on the official website and social media pages on race day, and final results follow after verification, about 7 to 10 days later. The official site links the 2026 results on the mysamay results page, and you can also reach it from the results menu on the official website. Timing certificates are available for download from the event website within a week of the race.
Keep two things in mind. Your chip time is recorded only if the timing chip on your bib is read at the splits along the route, so do not fold or tamper with the bib. Also, runners who did not start at their scheduled start time do not get a result or certificate.
Tips for Runners Planning the Next Bengaluru Marathon
- Plan for the early start. A 3:50 AM Marathon start means a very early wake-up, so practise a few long runs at that hour.
- Train for the loop course. The marathon course is a repeat loop, so pace the first loop sensibly and remember the three-hour first-loop cut-off.
- Sort your transport the night before. With no stadium parking, decide on your cab, carpool or Freedom Park shuttle plan in advance.
- Do not skip the expo. You cannot collect a bib on race day.
- Use a build-up race. Our upcoming marathon in Bangalore calendar lists races such as the Times Internet Half Marathon on 13 December and the Thump Celebration Bengaluru Half Marathon on 20 December 2026.
- Looking beyond Bengaluru? Check the upcoming marathon in Mumbai calendar if you want a big-city race on the west coast this season.
