General Raja Subramani is a graduate of the National Defence Academy (NDA) and the Indian Military Academy (IMA). He was commissioned into the 8th Battalion, The Garhwal Rifles, on 14 December 1985.

His rise to the top did not stop at field commands. He went on to hold some of the highest offices in the Indian defence establishment:

• Vice Chief of the Army Staff – From July 2024 to July 2025.
• Military Adviser, National Security Council Secretariat – From September 2025.
